RULE CHANGE: SEE BELOW

A rule addendum:   Riders must post up their total mileage by the end of a given month.  For fairness to all involved.  For instance by the last day of December, post up any remaining December miles within 30 days.  If you don't post your December miles within 30 days you lose the miles.  Horrid isn't it?  Ha!  Same with all the remaining months. This way someone can't just keep a paper journal and post up their miles at the very end and blind-side the competition.   On the last month of competition all miles must be posted within 7 days of the final day of November.  The official winner will be announced sometime that week.  Once a winner is declared...well, they are the winner.  So keep up to date, and especially be careful the last month when the grace period is shorter.

TEAM # 16 Maggie at Candy's Girl CAVALRY

TEAM # 16 Maggie at Candy's Girl

I'm Maggie and my guy is Mika, a 6yo Pollish Arab I've trained myself.  I bought him three years ago to fill the shoes of my first horse, Candy who died of colic in 2005.  I initially bought Mika as a stallion prospect to campaign and ultimately breed.  He turned out to be a cryptorchid and I lost my job so he got gelded and he's become my all around buddy.  We've done everything from chasing cans when we've tagged along with my husband to gaming shows to trails with friends to dressage to endurance to potentially to joining the local hunt club this winter.

The first two pictures are from this Spring's Chicken Chase.  We completed our first ride along with the aforementioned Flying Cheeto and Jen.

The third picture is a flag race at a fun show.

The fourth is fooling around one day two years ago at the boarding barn he lived at at the time.

The fifth is the day I picked him out at the farm he grew up on.  You can see how tiny he was!

The last one is my first horse, Candy.  We were about to play a couple chukkers (polo) one fall/winter.

 Kerrie and her ride Major

 No Hands Bridge People!

Your first name: Kerrie            Region:  California

Horse: Major, 8-year-old Arab, registered name, Majestik Mirage

Major is goofy, super brave and loves the trail. I have had him for 2 years, and in the beginning we did some arena work, but lately we have really only worked on the trail. We work on listening and rating our speed, as he thinks it would be best to canter everywhere, and I disagree! I often ride alone, but sometimes join friends for slower fun rides. I'm in Northern California, not far from the famed Tevis trail. Most of the trails we ride are technical single-track, with great views! There are tons of endurance people in the area, but I'm just taking it slowly and will hopefully do an LD ride in the future.
Kerrie's gear:

Saddle: Arabian Saddle Company Solstice
Pad: Haf pad with foam and felt inserts
Biothane halter-bridle
Boots: Renegades

TEAM # 7 Jennifer at Windy_Withers CAVALRY

Division:  Cavalry

Rider:  Jennifer                   Blog: Windy_Withers

Horse:  The Flying Cheeto (arabian)

Sonny at our first 25LD- he loved it! Our goal is 100  competitive miles this season and we're halfway there! We almost have our 250 mile AHA award!

Emma foxhunting at Traders Point Hunt, she has taken to it like a duck to water and just rocks her big ground covering gallop!

The three amigos!

I am proudly owned by Sugar, my intrepid one eyed little mega mare, Sonny, Momma's boy extraordinaire, cuddle muffin and affectionately known as the Flying Cheeto, and Emma, THE Big Gray Mare and proud of it! Sonny is the little ex-halter arab no one could handle then after coming to me and subsequently discovering endurance together has really made him come into his own. We dubbed him the Flying Cheeto due to his perchance to zig when I zag and leap tall man eating shadows in one single deer jump bound! Doing Dressage and jumping with him has really screwed his brain back in and he just thinks endurance was made for him. He might not be the fastest little orange guy in the bunch, but he definitely tries hard. Emma, or the Big Gray Mare (BGM) was also a "send it to me to fix". We've been working on her issues (inside and out) for the last few years and she's finally turning into what she was acquired for - a husband horse for Significant Other to enjoy (and I may or may not have gotten a pretty amazing fox hunter out of the deal too... heh... she is a jump seeking missile!). While searching high and low for what Emma and Sonny would decide to do, My original Sugar I rescued 10 years ago can do everything and do it well. Jump like a rocket? Got it. Trail ride? In the lead, out of her way, thank-you-very-much. Slow western jog? just give her a cowboy hat. Drag her feet so slowly with a timid rider and gallop so fast her feet don't touch the ground with me? shes on it.  Oh and did I mention she has one eye? I dont know what happened to it as it was healed (and has the silicone prosthetic behind it) when I got her.  I forget constantly because I don't think she remembers either! After recently bringing my horses home to our new farm, our relationships that I didn't think could get any stronger have grown by leaps and bounds. I can't wait to see where our adventures take us next! Whether its in the field with the Hunt, flying over jumps or on the trail looking for ribbons guiding the way or on an ACTHA ride that would have exploded one Cheetos brain last year to  just playing bareback, barefoot and almost bridle-less in our own pasture- we're up to the adventure so dish it out baby- have trailer and will travel!
(Note from ~E.G.  hmmm....looks like Jen just threw down the gauntlet! Glad I'm keeping score...have a feeling yo all better watch this one.  *wink*)--

TEAM # 5 Caitlin of Rafikah Rose

Team #5
Caitlin of Rafikah Rose

Bio: Two years ago I started volunteering at a stable as a way to
reintroduce myself to horses after a decade away. A turn in the
economy meant that many decent horses suddenly needed new homes and I
found myself agreeing to take on a pregnant five year old barely
halter broke Arabian mare before I had even figured out how I was
going to land on my feet post college. Green horse, green and broke
rider, we were never without an adventure or misadventure to be had. A
couple serious injuries later I found myself wandering into the
blogging world to both keep record of how far we'd come and to seek
out new perspectives and ideas on how to progress. Within the the last
six months things have finally started coming together and we have
begun seriously pursuing a dream of distance riding. So far we've
completed one "fun ride" with the AERC and are scheduled to complete
our first 25 mile distance ride on September 3rd, 2011.

As for Rose, the star of the blog, she'd be happiest at home eating...
all the time. Since being seriously introduced to the trials her
formerly bitchy mare attitude has morphed into a willing and pleasant
trail horse. She learns quickly when I get my communication consistent
and tries her hardest to do whatever I ask of her and will tackle
whatever I point her at on the trail. On the other hand we will never
be in arenas  more than we have to as neither of us like going in
circles. Now that we are mobile and have our own truck and trailer you
can find us whenever I have a spare couple hours between my jobs out
there on the trail. We ride primarily in north west Georgia but are
often going out and visiting with other riders around the region and
should soon be attending AERC rides in the SE region. Look for us in
our lime green and black gear, we promise to be easy to spot and
friendly... minus the occasional mare ears!

Division: Pioneer
Horse:
Team # 1 is Deanna riding Sky King (arabian) and Dressy Gal (Standard Bred).
Their blog: "Sky King's Girl"   princessirolita.wordpress.com/

I ride Sky King, an Arab gelding, and Dressy Gal, a Standardbred mare. I have been riding CTR for a few years now. Finished my first 50 last fall on King. I am also a CTR judge. I work for a Thoroughbred racing stable at the home farm taking care of mares, foals, and the occasional racehorse who is home for a rest. Used to work for a Standardbred racing stable too. And I rehome a lot of ex-racehorses (both TB and SB) as either general riding horses or ctr/endurance prospects.
